Gokhale Education Society, founded on 19th February 1918, is an illustrious educational enterprise with a rich legacy spanning over a century. Founded by Prin. T. A. Kulkarni, a disciple of Namdar Gopal Krishna Gokhale, G.E. Society today has grown to encompass more than 140 units across three zones in Mumbai, Nashik, and Thane-Palghar. It caters to an extensive student population of 1.25 lakh through its various educational institutes. These educational institutes provide training in a range of faculties including humanities, commerce, management, science, engineering and para-medical training and always strive for the holistic growth of students’ personalities. The visionary leadership of the Late Honourable Sir Dr. M.S. Gosavi, former Secretary and Director General of G. E. Society added unparalleled strength to the advancement of G. E. Society.
S.M.R.K. B.K. A.K. Mahila Mahavidyalaya, established on 28th June 1985, is the outgrowth of the external guidance centre for women under the name “Jidnyasa Mahila Mahavidyalaya” started by Late Prin. B.L. Patankar, ex-Principal of H.P.T. College of Arts and R.Y.K. Science College in 1955. It is a pioneering women’s college in North Maharashtra. Under the impactful mentorship of the founder Principal Late Honourable Dr.Mrs. Sunandatai Gosavi, the college flourished to find its distinct identity.
The college has always maintained a dynamic academic and cultural milieu and has been at the forefront of organising various innovative initiatives. The college offers 34 courses from Arts, Fine Arts, Commerce, Management and Home Science streams. The college organizes innovative activities like the Sir Dr. M.S. Gosavi Sangeet Mahostav, the educational exhibition “Srujan”, “Garba” for its students and alumnae, “Rangsparsh” art exhibition, “Commerce Week”, and “Miss SMRK Personality Contest” which have become flagship activities of this institute. Along with that, the college regularly organises seminars, conferences, and workshops on various opportune themes. The college holds a record for the consistent appearance of its students in the merit list of SNDT Women’s University, Mumbai. Standing true to the mission of the college, which is “Empowerment of women through quality education.”, the college always goes the extra mile to make efforts for the personality development of the students.
