More BACKGROUND OF THE COLLEGE This is one of the pioneering institution in the North Maharashtra for women education with the mission “Empowerment of Women Through Quality Education.” Our institute imparts Quality Education & Training in Arts, Fine Arts, Commerce, Home Science, Science, Management & Vocational under One Roof. Our college is the only college offering all streams at plus two stage and degree program at under graduate level and two Post Graduate programs along with Self-financed Certificate and Diploma Courses. These skill based courses equip students to face the challenges in this competitive world and making them more Competent, Confident and Courageous. The college is the outgrowth of the External Guidance Center for women under the name ’Jidnyasa Mahila  Mahavidyalaya’ started by late Principal B. L. Patankar (Ex-Principal, H.P.T. College) way back in the year 1955. The ’Jidnyasa Mahavidyalaya’ was converted into a full-fledged college in the year 1985 due to inspiring guidance of Prof G. B. Sardar, Prin Dr. H. V. Inamdar (Pune), Dr. Mrs. Jyotiben Trivedi, the then Vice-Chancellor of S.N.D.T. Women’s University, Mumbai and Prof. Mrs. Kamaliben Bhansali. The S.N.D.T. Women’s University Mumbai, granted affiliation to the college in the year 1985. Initially the college had an enrolment of 87 students which has now increased to 1700. The Junior College with Arts and Home Science Faculties was established in the year 1986. S.N.D.T. Women’s University also granted Post Graduate status to the college. During the Golden Jubilee Year (1974) of G. E. Society’s Nashik Campus, M/s. Raojisa Yamasa Kshatriya Trust, Nashik gave a munificent donation to the college in the name of Shrimati Manjulabai Raojisa Kshatriya. Further during the Diamond Jubilee Year of G. E. Society (1985) Shriram Charity Trust, Nashik gave a generous donation to the society to start Home Science Faculty in the college. Ingratitude the college has been named as “Shrimati Manjulabai Raojisa Kshatriya Arts, Commerce, Fine Arts- Athavle-Kulkarni Home Science Mahila Mahavidyalaya.” On the occasion of  Platinum Jubilee of G. E. Society (1999) many well wishers of Higher Eduction have extended their share by offering donations to the Society. Shri  Digvijaybhai Kapadia, a well-known businessman of Nashik is one amongst them has given handsome donation for establishment of Computer section under faculty of commerce in our college after the name of his father Late Babubhai Kapadia. Since then we proudly recognized as,  Shrimati Manjulabai  Raojisa Kshatriya Arts and Fine Arts, (S.M.R.K.) BabuBhai Kapadia (B.K.) Commerce and Athawale- Kulkarni (A.K.) Home Science Mahila Mahavidyalaya, Nashik. Our prime focus is on imbibing relevant behavioral traits and attitudes to enable students to be successful in every walk of life. We are gradually taking on the massive responsibility of being forerunners in every field and striving hard to achieve our mission “Empowerment of Women through Quality Education”. The college has achieved great heights of excellence in scholastic as well as in the non-scholastic domain. Our teachers, too, have made outstanding achievements in their career through research and contributing their expertise at national and international forums. ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE COLLEGE o Sports- In the last 15 years, 75 of our students have bagged University as well as State Level prizes in Sports events. E. Society, Nashik o Won ‘Best College Magazine Award’ for 4 consecutive years of G. E. Society. o Special facilities for differently abled students. o 22 in house publications with 10 ISBN (Till – 2014) o 5 Faculty members on prestigious ‘Board of Studies’ (BOS) of S.N.D.T. Women’s University. o Doctorates, 7 – Recognized Research Guides, 5 – Pursuing Research work for Ph.D. & 11 – M. Phil. o 12 Teachers awarded with honours such as ‘Best Teacher Award’ o 80 – Students appeared in University Merit List, 37 have topped the list. o 75 – Students bagged University and State Level Prizes in sports o Overall and General Championship in Youth Festival consecutively for 7 years. o Student bagged 35 prizes at National, 47 prizes at State, 33 prizes at Zonal and 92 prizes at University level in Extra – Curricular activities. o Active in organizing educational exhibition ‘SRUJAN’ o 8 of our Staff members have presented Research papers and have given educational visits as experts to Foreign Countries. o College is ISO 9001 : 2008 Certified and NAAC ‘B’ grade accredited. o College has 14 Memorandum of Understanding with N.G.O’s & Government Organizations to Undertake Community Outreach Programmes. INNOVATIVE PRACTICES OF THE COLLEGE The College promotes an ambience of creativity and innovation, which enhances its image in the society, which contributes to its growth.  The following are some innovative practices o ISO 9001 : 2008 Certification. This involves regular internal as well as external audits. o Staff Welfare Academy organises Annual Weeklong Faculty Development Programmes open for staff of all Gokhale Education Society run colleges. o Annual Study Tours for students of all faculties. o Research Cell organises Staff Study Tours to different Universities in order to encourage collaboration and research. o Four Students’ Centred Associations – Commerce and Economics Association, Home Science Association (HAN), Kala Mandal, and Nature Club. o Srujan, an annual exhibition open to all schools and colleges. o Rang Sparsh, an exhibition of art work by the BVA Staff and students. The BVA department also designs the College Academic Calendar and the cover of the college magazine, Shatarupa. o Annual music concert organized by Department of Music, renowned artistes all over India are invited. It is open to all Nashikites. The department also organises a musical programme on teachers’ day. o Nutrition week organised by Department of Food and Nutrition. The department also offers consultancy services to Small Scale Industries such as Shriram Foods Chunchun Chikies and to the Mahindra and Mahindra Co. Canteen. o Commerce Week organised by Commerce and Economic Association. Trophy installed for best student participant o Tourism Week organised by Travel and Tourism staff and students. o Hindi Day celebrations by the Department of Hindi. o Marathi Day celebrations by the Department of Marathi o Vachak Manch /Book Club established to encourage the habits of reading among students. o Wall Magazines –( Daffodils, HAN, NSS, Nature Club, Kala Mandal, Commerce Bulletin Board) regular displays are put by students with original or news worthy articles and pictures. o Counselling Cell for students. o Career Guidance and Placement Cell organises various programmes to help students prepare for various careers. Campus Interviews also arranged annually. o Mock Interviews are conducted by the Department of English for students of Third Year. o Ms SMRK Personality Contest sponsored by renowned personalities among our alumni. o Our College alumni also sponsor some of the activities, and also participate actively, during the Annual Gathering. FOCUS ACTIVITY OF THE COLLEGE o SRUJAN started in the Academic Year 2005 – 06 and continued as a yearly feature of our College. o Brainchild of an ingenious personality, our Principal Dr. Deepti Deshpande o Every year a unique theme is given , such as “Sustainable Development’, ‘Environmental Awareness’, ‘Emerging trends in higher education’, etc. o SRUJAN is a creative expression of SMRK students from 5 faculties, 14 departments of the Junior and Senior sections of our college and also from the non-grant courses. o It is a three-day exhibition. o The best innovative display of SRUJAN is rewarded by ‘Best SRUJAN Trophy’ and a cash prize by the college. o Every year 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th std. girl-students are invited from around 40 schools and junior colleges of Nashik. o More than a 1000 visitors comprising of girl-students, parents and youths from the city of Nashik visit SRUJAN. o SRUJAN fulfils the following objectives. o It showcases the talents of our students. o It gives immense satisfaction and increases involvement of parents in their daughters’ education. o It creates awareness about our courses, their relevance and scope in Nashikites. o It creates an awareness of diversified vocations and gives career guidance to school and college – going girls. o It helps us make the teaching – learning process more effective by making students more active and involved. o It facilitates development of the students’ personality by giving them a firsthand experience in organization and communication.
